Large-Scale PostgreSQL Hybrid Clustered/Non-Clustered Master/Slave Replication
I want to implement a scheme for PostgreSQL replication (master, slave, failover), where:
The master and slaves will be located on different physical machines
Write operations will be directed to the master
There will be a failsafe on the master machine in case of a hardware failure. In case the failsafe fails, the master will be placed in standby mode (only reads) and a slave will be assigned to it. Slave will be isolated from the others (slave.databases=1)
The master will be running as a slave to keep it alive
There will be no control over the master machine (e.g. if an administrator switches on the master machine, no one else should be able to access it)
All database sessions should be automatically restarted after master failure (the restarts will be handled by the administrator)
The problem is that I don’t know where to begin.
Here are my requirements (if you think that there are problems, please let me know):
The total number of connections should not exceed a certain value (e.g. 20000)
The replication should be as seamless as possible
I can imagine the following scenarios:
All hosts are in a single pool
Uses round-robin DB replication
Network protocols such as TCP/IP are used to communicate between the physical machines
